Answering a Reader Question #493

Hi Dania,

I did some research and drilled down to the agencies that I think I meet the specifications for. Wondering if you can tell me if you recognize these names and if I'm missing any that you would have told me to add. Two of them concern me, I've listed them first. Thanks!!

Hi, Nika!

I don't see that you've missed any agencies so far. I don't live or work in the ATL area so I personally can't vouch for any of the agencies there but many of them are ones I've referred to models to check out who were interested in agency representation.

I couldn't find any negative reviews about Couture Model Agency so you should still consider them. However, I don't care for the U Model Inc. site because they talk about training and workshops, which to me is a red flag that they sell/charge for modeling classes and that's not necessary for getting an agent so I would leave that one off your list.

Go ahead and apply to the rest on the list and see what response you get. Should you get invited to a casting call or interview, definitely go and make sure to be observant, ask a lot of questions and be cautious of any red flags, such as asking for upfront fees, stating that you need to enroll in expensive courses/classes/workshops, etc.

Many people avoid certain agencies altogether because they aren't sure if they're legit or not but that's actually not the way to go about it. It's better to go and see the place in person and talk to the people. Just because you get invited to a modeling agency's office doesn't mean you're obligated to sign a contract with them, especially if you aren't interested. So there's no harm in checking a place out and then deciding for yourself whether it would be a good choice or not afterwards.
