Many male models for runway and fashion are 6'0" - 6'3" but that doesn't mean agencies won't consider someone of your height. The fact that you are 17 is also something that could work in your favor.

Agencies often will consider a model who isn't the minimum height for fashion if they are younger because they know that means they'll likely grow taller as they get older. That tends to be the case for a lot of men.

That being said, you should do an online search for agencies within a 2 hour's drive from where you live. Check out the websites and find out what the height requirements and age ranges are if listed and if they hold open calls where you can go in person without an appointment.

There are also commercial/print agencies where the height requirements are much more flexible so if you don't gain any interest from fashion agencies for whatever reason, you should definitely look into submitting to print agencies as your backup plan.

Typically, that phrase is "agency speak" for politely saying you aren't what they're looking for. If you don't meet the physical requirements stated -- for example, if it was a fashion agency you were talking to and you weren't within their stated height or size range, that would be a common response. Or it could mean that your look isn't one that they feel is currently in demand at the moment and they don't want to take the chance of signing you, only to have you sitting on roster the entire time without any traction.  While it's not a great response to receive, it is their polite way of saying no, thank you. Now that you have a definite answer from that particular agent, you can move on to submitting to others and hopefully find the one that you are the right type for. Best of luck to you!
