Answering a Reader Question #787

Unfortunately many people, including myself believe that its all about height and fresh-skin, yet there has to be something else there too. Reputable modelling agencies seek out 'quirks of character'; often educated and culturally diverse in terms of their intellect, with expressive facial features that are not synthetically composed. I am 42 and look no more than 20, and 18 on a different day. I am not a model, but do have all of the attributes to become one, but here's the thing, where to begin with all of these integral human qualities when you are exquisitely more beautiful than everyone else in your town?

Hi, Shikira Clare,

There are many reputable agencies out there that represent mature, lifestyle and commercial/print models, which are the categories you are eligible for, if you were ever interested in pursuing modeling to some degree.

While looking younger than your numercial age is certainly an advantage, it is also ideal to submit for categories that you realistically meet the industry standards for, since these will be the areas an agent would be able to successfully market you towards.

While having a great personality, intelligence and other quirks are assets, with agencies it is a numbers and physical requirements game so like anyone else in your situation, it all starts with an online search for agencies within a 2 hour's drive from where you live that represent mature, lifestyle or commercial/print models. The agency websites will contain all the info and guidelines you'll need to know in order to submit yourself for consideration.

The modeling world is very much open to models of all ages--namely in the commercial/print world so if you ever want to get your feet wet, there is certainly ample opportunity to do so if you're in the right location and meet the other industry standard requirements. What have you got to lose? :-)
