Answering a Reader Question #717

How should I go about investigating local agencies for my teenager? I know one does charge for classes to "get you ready". We are not near the bigger, more reputable agencies. Do they have a presence in most big cities?

Hey, Birdbath!

The more reputable agencies are typically located in the larger cities. While that doesn't mean the ones located outside of those areas shouldn't be trusted, it usually does require being much more critical when trying to see if they are operating on the up-and-up.

The best resource is the agency's website in addition to seeing if they have a general Internet presence. Sites like the Better Business Bureau can also be helpful, as are sites like RipOffReport.com. If an agency doesn't have its own website, that isn't automatically a bad thing but it isn't really a good thing, you know? These days even the smallest, rural area agencies have some kind of website or online profile to display.

However, you are allowed to submit to agencies that are within at least a 2 hour's drive from where you live so if that expands your search area a bit, definitely do that instead of limiting yourself to what is super local to you.

When it comes to agencies that charge for classes and workshops, I almost always suggest avoiding them UNLESS the courses are optional and not mandatory or a prerequisite for getting signed to the agency. I've come across a few agencies who have classes and training programs but state specifically on their websites that they aren't mandatory.

If you provide me with the city and state you live in (not your mailing address or anything like that), maybe I can see if I can find any agencies for you to check out. You can provide that info by commenting on this post or you can email me your city and state directly at: daniadenise@gmail.com.

  1. What is your opinion on Farrah Abraham?? I know she was with models international in Beverly hills. I don't know if she's still with them. Do you think any legitimate agency will take her on? I feel no one will take her on due to the reputation she's created for herself. She's a plastic pornstar. Will she ever become a legitimate model/actress?? What are your thoughts on her modeling career or lack thereof??
