I did a print spot for a well known company as a NU model last Oct. for $2500 1 year buyout. They are considering renewing for 2nd year $2500 and 3rd year $3750. I’m unrepresented atm. I am union now. I’m on hold for my first scene in a feature and I just worked a Chanel commercial (featured BG, let’s not roll out the red carpet here). But, one: I think, even with the strike, I’m moving on up, and two: isn’t 2nd year buyout rates supposed to be more? Could you help me on what an appropriate response would be or a fair counter-offer would be? Again, you rock. Thanks for helping the wide-eyed!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2648986687387406840.post-14494902828196933372022-01-24T19:40:20.857-08:002022-01-24T19:40:20.857-08:00Hi, Krysten!

Is that for the modeling industry? Who is "they"...is it the agencies? Just wanted to get more clarification on that since if that's within the modeling industry, that would be pretty huge and I'm surprised I hadn't heard that.

Modeling agencies are different in terms of employment practices than regular companies/businesses. Models who are represented by agencies aren't considered employees, it's an independent contract situation so I'm super curious about what you said and if it applies directly to the modeling industry as a whole.

If you're talking about freelance modeling/influencers who aren't repped by an agency, that's an entirely different thing.

And I don't think I'm crushing anyone's dreams. My post doesn't say you can't be a model in your late 20s, just that it's more challenging and not typically the standard according to agencies in larger markets. I just provide the guidelines based on what I've seen on the hundreds of agency websites I've researched in helping models find representation that fits their goals/aspirations in addition to my own career experiences of being a professional model for the past 24 years.

I've seen and heard from too many who were taken advantage of or set expectations that weren't realistic so I like to make sure to share the parameters in which the modeling world operates by.Dania Denisehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05395576931121009984noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2648986687387406840.post-90955775633773992642022-01-24T06:24:20.665-08:002022-01-24T06:24:20.665-08:00Hey you may want to update this about the age thin...Hey you may want to update this about the age thing, the industry has changed a lot in the past 5 years or so, plenty of models start their careers off at 20+ these days especially since legally they had to raise the work age from 16 to 28 .. so be careful to do your research before crushing any dreams Kyrstenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06590396341561568360noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2648986687387406840.post-70872640514588482232021-02-27T16:41:22.410-08:002021-02-27T16:41:22.410-08:00Hi, Livia!

It would only be temporary, however. Other than that, you should be fine pursuing agency representation. :-)Dania Denisehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05395576931121009984noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2648986687387406840.post-47478824273723319482021-02-12T09:26:15.279-08:002021-02-12T09:26:15.279-08:00Hey! "Industry standard runway and fas...Hi, Steve!

"Industry standard runway and fashion work" refers to the demographic of models who are in the active peak of their careers. They meet the age, height and size requirements and are usually signed to large agencies in major markets like New York, Los Angeles, Miami, and--of course--international markets.

Older male models typically are not included in this demographic, which isn't a bad thing, it's just the life cycle of the average mainstream male fashion/runway model.

Being able to walk in fashion shows locally and in other markets is much more open to age ranges, heights and sizes but in the "mainstream," that is reserved for the models who meet the strict requirements to walk in big name designer shows nationally and in other countries. I did not take any classes, photos, or go to any castings whatsoever. I contacted the agency and we decided that I would stop on amicable terms but it was not explicitly stated that my contract was terminated. Now I am interested in starting again but with a different agency. Am I in the clear, or do you think there could be legal repercussions?

Thank you,
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2648986687387406840.post-81080879253609485572018-07-21T12:29:47.663-07:002018-07-21T12:29:47.663-07:00I recently had an agency interview and so how woul...I recently had an agency interview and so how would i know if they were interested in signing me or not? I would like to know what happened to women who have family such as children etc. how do they balance family and modeling, not to mention modeling include traveling. Can you bring family along? Not at the photo shoot, but hotel for instance? Does the agents work out with the model especially if she has a family to care for? Also you mention in one of the post, that a women after they turn 22 or 23, I think so, are considered "old" for catwalks which mean if you past 25 you won't be able to. But what about women that don't look their age at all? I believe they look at the face not age, because the young faces and body sell, not age, or at least that what I think. some women are 20 but look 30 year old. I hope you will answer to me. Thank you.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2648986687387406840.post-71102539001483009122017-08-08T14:50:46.702-07:002017-08-08T14:50:46.702-07:00Thank you so much for the comment and kind words, ...Thank you so much for the comment and kind words, MrAaToYou! Like for example, knock knees or a slightly assymetrical face. If you're balanced out with positive physical attributes, would you be accepted regardless of your peculiarities? Or rather, if this question is too subjective, do modelling agencies only accept completely 'flawless' girls in apperance?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
