Answering a Reader Question #495

Anonymous Wrote: I just got a tattoo on my forearm it's a tiger it's just not that much big eather can I still get a job Hi, Anonymous! As long as the tattoo can be easily concealed and/or covered up using body makeup, it shouldn't prevent you from booking modeling jobs. While some modeling gigs specifically ask for models with no tattoos, there are many that make exceptions for models with small, minimal tats. Make sure to submit yourself to those (if you're freelance) and you should be fine. If you have an agent or are seeking representation, make sure to let them know about the tattoo and they'll keep that in mind when submitting you for castings.

Jessica Naicker Wrote: Hi my names jess I'm 17 years old Always had a dream to.be a model in a top modeling agency Im very enthusiastic nd very competitive My current weight is 45 kg height is 164 cm It would be nice to get some advice on modeling or how to reach my goal.  Hi, Jess! Based on your height, you don't meet the requirements for fashion or runway but could try for commercial/print. That being said, you'll want to look online for the websites of modeling agencies that represent commercial/print models. Each site will list its guidelines for how to submit yourself as a model, which you need to make sure to follow to a tee. Don't worry about getting professional photos or a portfolio--you won't need them as a new model to send to agencies. 9 times out of 10 they'll request non-professional, digital snapshots. So make sure you know exactly what they ask for and give them that. Once you've sent in your materials, it'll be a matter of wait

Haute Styled Wint Wrote: Hello, I am interested in becoming a buyer for the bridal industry. Do you have any insight? I am currently a bridal stylist and a freelance writer for Houston Brides Magazine. Hey there, Haute Styled Wint! I personally don't have any experience with fashion buying in general so I can't offer any specific advice to you, unfortunately. However, I did some research and given the fact that you're already in the bridal industry, that gives you a huge advantage over those just starting out with no experience at all. Ideally, you'll want to get into an internship/apprenticeship training program at a bridal boutique or a traditional fashion boutique or department store. The training program/internship should specifically deal with buying operations. This will give you the hands-on experience, knowledge and connections needed to build your qualifications as a buyer. Try doing an online search for "Buying Training Programs" and see

Nika Wrote: Hey Dania! Nika again! Makeup question. Can you share with us how you prepare for the camera when you don't have an MUA? I assume you always use concealer and full coverage foundation even if you have perfect skin. I have perfect skin off and on. At this moment I am fighting dark spots and my regular foundation is not covering. I've never used concealers or full coverage foundation so I don't know where to start. Can you tell us what steps you take to prepare for the camera when you need a flawless look and what brands you use? I was looking at dermablend for concealing but I'm not sure. Oh, do you ever have to use body makeup? Thanks! I feel like I may need a makeup application class :( I only now how to quickly throw on my basic foundation, mascara and gloss! Hi, Nika! Great to hear from ya! :-) Trust me, my skin is NOT perfect...far from it, in fact. It's healthy but as far as appearance, I do a lot to try and maintain it. I have ecz

Jennifer Wrote: Hi Dania! (Pssst, its your silly bean!) My friend Anastasia told me she wants to start modeling. She just doesn't know where to start. What would you suggest? Miss you, and see you on October 14th! Hey, my silly bean! I think I remember you telling me about Anastasia. I don't recall how old she is but I'm guessing she's probably around your age. If she wants to get into modeling, she'll want to get an agent and should start by looking at the ones in the San Francisco Area. Here is a list of agencies in the area that have kid/teen modeling divisions: Boom Models & Talent http://www.boomagency.com JE Model  http://jemodel.com/ Look Model Agency http://lookmodelagency.com/ *they have a Tweens division Scout Model and Talent Management http://www.scouttm.com *they have a Tweens division Stars Model Management http://www.starsmodelmgmt.com She'll want to visit each agency to find out what the instructions are for submitting herself

Anonymous Wrote: Hi I'm a model with agency representation. I want to test again for my book however, I don't want to go through the agency photographer again since it was quite expensive $1420 total. I would prefer to not go through model mayhem since I personally haven't had great luck on there. I want someone who is experienced and knows how to shoot for the market I am in. I need to find a quality photographer in NYC who shoots commercial print/lifestyle images for my book. I want to continue shooting to get more experience since I am a new model as well. Where would you suggest I find a photographer I have called other agencies asking for a referral but they wouldn't give it to me since I am not represented by them. I would prefer to pay no more than say $900.00 which would include hair, makeup, styling and editing of the pics. Is this unreasonable I just want to test again with quality photographers. Do you have a list you could recommend

Anonymous Wrote: Hi Dania! I am 14y.o and have been reading all your previous posts as I aspiring to become a model. I am very confident and very sociable. I am 5'6" but I am still growing. I wear heels almost on a daily basis to get use to the feel and to practice walking, I am able to do so with ease now. I also practice posing and I do very often focus on my facials and try to improve. I have mild acne but have just recently started a skincare regime a couple weeks ago and it has improved since, also I have acne on my back and have the occasional pimple on my chest. I also have gotten stretch marks on both sides of my hips purple in color after a recent growth spurt but have started using the product "Bio Oil" which is meant to improve the appearance of stretch marks over time. I don't diet but I try to eat as healthy as possible so I refrain from the fizzy drinks, juice, chocolate etc. I've also began exercising more. Another thing, I use

I have finally wishing that I would magically grow up to 170+cm and started looking at other types of modelling. I have looked startingg looking into commercial/print modelling. I just want to know several modelling agencies in Queensland Australia (I would prefer Brisbane because QLD is just TOO big^^)Can you please tell me some modelling agencies in Brisbane which have commerical/print model section? Thank you! Hi, Anonymous! Awww, thank you, I'm glad to have you as a reader!!! Here is what I could find in the Brisbane area...not all of them state specifically what divisions they represent so it's still worth submitting your photos and info and seeing where it goes from there.
